Game in trouble?
They were not selling Mass effect3 and now they wont be selling Asuras wrath and the new tekken, is it a financial thing or an EA thing

Re: Game in trouble?
It's a financial thing. Game wanted better rates on the new releases from EA. They refused, so Game decided they are not willing (or able) to stock EA games for the next month at least. I assume a similar thing has happened with Capcom now, hence the lack of Asura's Wrath and Street Fighter X Tekken.
I feel sorry for the staff who are going to lose their jobs (without a miracle anyway) but the company has had this coming. They make no attempt to be competitive with their prices. I understand that the supermarkets can afford to undercut and make a loss on certain products, but even HMV offer better prices than Game. Unacceptable tbh.
Maybe if the rumoured Gamestop buyout comes to fruition then things may be different.

Shopto.
If you want one, they are going to put a very limited supply on sale at 2pm tomorrow.
I'm cutting back on CE's too. There is a few game series, like Mass Effect, that I still want to buy them but generally I will stick with the standard. Plus, the fact I dont have to pay for the day one DLC for ME3 kinda subsidises the cost of the CE.

They are looking for someone to buy them out before the deadline that will send them into administration, a lot of people are saying its their own fault due to bad management

LOL - The only reason I ever went to game in the first place was I bought consoles from there for the reward card points which eventually netted me getting Bordlerlands free

Re: Game in trouble?
Yep, I havent bought a game from them in years. The last thing I bought from Game/ Gamestation was my launch day Slim PS3.
Even HMV are under-cutting their in-store prices and offer much better trade-in value. For a dedicated gaming store, is it any wonder they are in financial difficulties if they can't offer anywhere near the best value.
That said, though, they will be missed if they disappear. Some of the more obscure games don't turn up in Supermarkets, HMV etc so with them gone online will be the only option for certain purchases. When Ico/ Shadow of the Collossus HD Collection was released, Game and Gamestation were the only place selling it near me (albeit for the RRP).

Yep, I read on Eurogamer that they need to find about £180 million before the weekend to prevent administration. Definitely keep an eye out for some bargains.

Re: Game in trouble?
Not really. There isn't much I want that I dont already own or I haven't played. Prices still aren't good enough either.
I have noticed that they are replacing their new games with pre-owned games. Very few brand new games in my local Game. Gamestation was even worse - only one brand new game in the whole shop (and it was MW3 for PS3).
I did hear that they were selling brand new stuff as pre-owned, though.
If you are on the look out, keep an eye on their website. Some of the pre-owned stuff has been going for really cheap on there - BF3 was going for £3 last week. Sold out really fast unsurprisingly.

Re: Game in trouble?
I remember Electronics Boutique...just. They were around before I really got into gaming. I remember walking past the store and I couldn't understand why so many people shopped there. Then I got a PS1....

Re: Game in trouble?
Well, 227 stores were closed today and they stopped accepting reward card points and gift cards (and stopped offering refunds or exchanges for any items).
As far as I know, my local Game store is still open but Gamestation has closed. The big Gamestation in Birmingham has cloased as well. Seems like Gamestation is taking most of the hits, but there is still a shit ton of Game store closing as well.

I guess you will buying the new AC3 collectors edition then.
Might get it myself, but there seems less in there than in previous AC collectors editions. Maybe all the content hasn't been announced yet.

Re: Game in trouble?
Yep. A few years ago it had a huge slot on new street. Two floors (a whole floor dedicated to retro games) and the main floor was twice as big. Even since the downsize though, I have never seen that store empty.
I suppose the rental cost must be very high though for such a high traffic area like new street.
